Temple courts feel empty without a proportional amount of people
The main temple feels empty without a proportional amount of people. But to fill up that space with people may be too resource intensive. I've never seen a game with near a thousand people (though I'll bet my nVidia RTX could handle it, if scaled down carefully). On the other hand, if you make, say the court of the gentiles smaller, you'll lose some of the realism which I love! I love the realistic dimensions of the temple mount and key theology influencers (eg pastors) hopefully will love this too. Here's a way you may be able to make the temple (or other large areas) realistically full of people and not feel non-empty. Maybe a majority of these "extra" characters (mostly duplicates of others) can 100% freeze if over 40 feet away from the user, and usually will be relatively static while worshipping or noisily bartering in the court of the gentiles. I'll bet most consoles could handle thousands of those kinds of characters. They'd basically just be the background. If you have time to code that carefully, that could be golden, or so says my non-game-designer self who really has great respect for what you've already accomplished. :) I imagine with more people in the background, game players would get the feel of a real ancient Israeli community and the spiritual society they are partaking in. If that would be too computationally intensive for some, a check box could be added to the video settings to enable or disable the increased the number of people.
